Lavier Brings Cozy Bass Vibes on Latest Album, ‘Azimuth’

in New Releases

Lavier’s new album, Azimuth, is a perfect addition to your playlists this season with a tasteful blend of dubstep, downtempo, and experimental bass sonics.

A true artist in every aspect, Lavier is a perfectionist with a knack for detail in both his music and visual art. Based in Pittsburgh and part of the underground bass community, his work undoubtedly deserves more ears, as his skilled production style speaks for itself.

This week, he celebrated his birthday with the release of his first full-length project since 2017, an 11-track album titled Azimuth. With so many artists self-releasing lately, Lavier has joined in on the trend of cutting the middleman for this album. For him, it only makes sense, given that he even creates all the visual art for his projects.

Azimuth is a refreshing, modern dubstep project that ebbs and flows beyond the never-changing 140 pattern that has become so heavily regurgitated within the bass scene. The first three offerings slowly build a haunted yet hopeful atmosphere that could only be described as cinematic. The ambient yet experimental slow build perfectly sets the stage for Azimuth’s story, and the opening track, “Coming Home,” definitely serves as a proper hook for the project.

Tracks like “Fester,” “Storm,” and “Slice” bring a higher energy with their more familiar dubstep wobbles, undoubtedly sound-system ready. Similarly, “Low Ball” and “Trash” demand a dark, maybe questionable dancefloor (the best kind), with their deep-purring basslines. Lavier even added a moody garage gem in the very middle of the project on “Once Was,” and a hint of the same flair at the end of one of the dubstep tunes, “Air Pocket,” to make this collection of tracks feel complete.

Azimuth is out everywhere now, so head to Spotify or grab a copy on Bandcamp to show this project some love!
